Thursday’s quandary: I’m running out of space on my DVR. I’ve become a certifiable HGTV junkie. And *apparently* House Hunters, House Hunters International, and Property Virgins run several times per day (who knew?).
I did get here…somehow. There’s definitely a dearth of good television during the summer. No one is going to argue that. And now that they’ve changed the format of So You Think You Can Dance, well, I’m all like “eh” about any of the “regular” channels. So, my quick fix is multiple hours of HGTV goodness. Obviously. I’ve even gotten The Husband involved. We sit, nightly, in front of that glowing screen. Large cat on the back of the couch, rotating every few minutes to alternate her fat ass at each of our faces (why does she do that? We still can’t figure it out). Barely talking. Trying to guess which house each of the couples will select. A healthy marriage, I think. Thank you very much.
What I didn’t account for was the anger we would both feel when any one couple makes the “wrong” decision. Like that pair in Italy who selected an absolute dump. It was cheap, but caving in on itself. Price doesn’t much matter when you’re house is a pile of rubble. Or those people in Boston who chose a miniature two bedroom walkup (they will regret it sorely when with child. And stroller. And groceries. I speak from personal experience here).
On the upside, I can now redecorate any room, even a small space. (I hope you’re listening, Nate Berkus.)
What’s your favorite summer entertainment activity? I would hope it involves television.
I love the warm, comforting glow of the TV as well. We catch up on series we didn’t get to watch during the regular year during the summer.
I still like SYTYCD, though that’s probably just b/c I get to see Pasha again. SIGH.
I’m a Top Chef junkie. The new season just started last night.
I’m so resistant to change when I like a show, so I’m feeling the same thing you’re feeling about So You Think You Can Dance! I love tv and I won’t even apologize for it!
I am a Bravo addict so I am glad that Top Chef is back on and there is always the Housewives. I am ashamed to admit it but it is entertaining. I love watching home improvement shows to. I was watching a show about master bathrooms and now have it in my head that we need to redo our master bath. My hubby may take the remote from me.
The cancelled my obsession which was GEMS TV. The most cheap & REAL jewelry out there, so now all I have it Big Brother on CBS for the summer. I love that show. People are so crazy and its a guaranteed 1 hour of new episodes 3 times a week. Other than that I catch up on movies via Netflix.
I am a sucker for The Bachelorette.
I am also a sucker for anything that I actually get to choose that isn’t on ESPN, The Disney Channel, or Nick Jr.
I find myself totally addicted to cable channels in the off season because they always run new seasons of shows. First choice is Top Chef, I swear I will try out one day. I love it. Then The Closer or Royal Pains are our second favs. Craig and I watch the HGTV shows almost every saturday and act the same way, it so funny. Except add an occasional spoken dream about moving overseas yeah we are weird I know.
I used to bemoan the fact that there is nothing new I like to watch in the summer but this year I am loving it as it is making me get out and take a walk in the evening and of course I now have my blog! So I am watching zero television, unless you count Mickey Mouse and Caillou which I watch with my daughter!
I can’t believe Im going to admit this but I like the trash. The Hills, The City, Kendra, Girls next Door and now I hear Holly Maddison is starting a show…Oh my.
ummm, i <3 HGTV. but we don't have tv anymore… just internet. however, i realized recently that i can watch episodes of nearly every HGTV show online at their website… WAHOOO!
um, and have you seen the DIY network? Most specifically "Yard Crashers." i don't know why, but i got addicted when Elliot was a newborn and i was stuck on the couch all day breastfeeding/holding a napping baby. loooove it.
I love that you watch House Hunters, International! Me too! I’m getting scarily obsessed with that darn show. It is totally on my DVR. As sad as I am that Housewives, New York is coming to an end, I will be watching Top Chef and probably (as embarrassed as I am to admit) Bethany Gets Married. Oh somebody stop me.
Lol! I watch the house hunter shows with my husband too. He is a real estate agent which makes the shows extra entertaining because he’s always commenting on the mistakes the people are making or the things that they do right. ;D
Mad Men, Mad Men, MAD MEN!!!! You must watch! Especially for the nostalgic bad-parenting scenes, such as when Don picks up the picnic blanket and shakes the trash onto the grass. Or when their daughter walks in with a plastic bag over her head and says, “I’m an astronaut!” and Betty replies, “if my dry-cleaning is on the floor you’re in big trouble, missy!” Oh, things were simpler back then.
Summer entertainment for the kids consists of (1) an Elmo sprinkler mat and (2) popsicles.

Okay, so you are going to think I am totally lame. But I really barely watch any tv at all. Except kids shows, which I watch pretty often, cuz you know how I feel about TV sedation, yo. Anyway, from the ranks of kid TV, my current favorites are iCarly and Victorious. And yes I let my 5 year old watch them. I am such an awesome mom. Please don’t call CPS on me.
I do love the tv as well…hgtv is one of my favorites. I often wonder why some people pick the houses they do also. Some are major dumps! Also a big fan of Sytycad…kinda glad hot tamalie lady is off the show.

You are right, summer TV is just AWFUL. I do watch the Bachelorette, and this season is the absolute WORST ever. But I still watch it, because there is just nothing else on TV right now.
We love reality TV during the summer, America’s Got Talent, Wipe Out, Top Chef, etc. We try to through some fun it there to though with movie nights, catching lightning bugs, night swimming,etc.
