A post about pigeons, and the fourth. One day after the fourth.

I’ve decided that I’ll be able to produce about 1 post per week on this blog, at least until I can figure out how to stuff my apartment into two hefty garbage bags. One bound to the goodwill (unbeknownst to The Husband, aka master pack-rat), one headed for New York.

Anyways, happy fourth to all! I hope you had a fabulous weekend with loved ones. We actually managed to coerce Peanut to sleep in her stroller, and were able to enjoy some fireworks (at night! On a rooftop patio! With drinks!). Not something I generally endorse (really going off of Peanut’s schedule). I’m usually convinced that any night-time deviation will result in Peanut meltdown, more aptly referred to as hell. But she was a co-operative little piece of protein, much to our delight.

Then, today, we attended a clam chowder festival. Because what better to do in 103 degree weather than visit a patio with no shade! And eat hot soup! Later, at Boston’s beautiful Public Gardens, I confirmed that Peanut’s favorite animal is, in fact, the Pigeon. An unfortunate choice, given pigeons are basically land-rats (IMHO). But, you know, I’m a huge animal lover. So if that’s what Peanut likes, I’m all for it.

And despite the heat, the sweating (Peanut and I, mostly), the one sample of really not so good chowder, it was a fabulous weekend. It’s nice that we’ve been able to experience so many things over the last twelve months. It’s also amazing to me that Peanut will remember nothing of this year in Boston, this time that was so integral in our lives.

But, then again, I guess that’s why I have this.

Great to “see” you around blogland again! Hope your move prep is going well, and YAY for rooftop fireworks!!

I too have my blog so I can remember my life and document things. Seriously. My memory is horrible and the blog helps me to look back and see what was happening. And we too deviated from Hayden’s usual schedule on Saturday night and kept him out until nearly 9:45 pm watching fireworks (he usually goes to bed by about 8pm). He didn’t sleep or anything, but he stayed relatively nice and well-mannered. He didn’t seem to care for the fireworks that much though and really just wanted to go home… it was still fun though. And he did well the next day – no adverse effects of the late-night shenanigans. I guess it’s okay to go off schedule every once in awhile…

Ah yes, Peanut will not remember any of this but you will always remember those special moments and events. Glad you had a wonderful weekend and that you did take Peanut to view the fireworks and have a drink or two and that she enjoyed it all too. Good luck with the packing and I am glad you are back in the blogosphere again!

A clam chowder festival? I’ve never heard of such a thing! 103??? UGH!!! This week is super hot and humid, isn’t it? Good luck with all of your packing!

  5. I kind of felt like that when we left Denver. I can’t wait to take my son back there someday and show him where he was born, his first house, etc. You are right though…the blog will definitely help!!

While Boston is so much more interesting than Gilbert, AZ, I am also sometimes struck by the fact that my Bug won’t remember the year we spent there and all we did. Happy moving!

  7. You could post once a week or once a month, I wouldn’t care, I’m still going to read. :-) Glad you had such a great 4th — we took my 3-years-old for her first fireworks, and she loved it! And both girls slept in for us on Monday, so yay! ;-)

Yep, that’s a big part of the reason I blog too. Every once in a while I think to myself, “she’ll never remember this. How sad!” But the Internet will, and so the memories will be there for her too.

We finagled Aura’s schedule for the fireworks, too. Not my proudest parenting moment, but fun.

I’ll miss your Boston stories. Then again, I could use a good NY story or two…

  10. I too hate deviating from the routine. I NEVER thought I’d utter such blasphemy, but alas… Pre-baby I swore that I wouldn’t be a slave to baby schedules and secretly scoffed at moms that were. I have seen the light that can only be shed by a well rested, routine loving child… sigh. Like you, we ventured out on Canada Day to soak up some of the festivities. Twas fun, though Ava is not one to dare miss a thing and was wide awake LONG past her bedtime. Worth it though occasionally :) Good luck with the move!

    Sarah,
I know we’ve been out of touch, but the best of luck with moving. If you need any help let me know. And about the hefty bags, I feel you. Get the one’s with amazing stretch….you can put in more items for goodwill that way. ha ha. Anything I can do to help let me know. One blog a week is my maximum lately….cheers to you for all your efforts, helping me stay sane, and making me laugh. Loved your last few posts. And old reader returns. Call me when you can.
    Lucy

Sounds like the perfect weekend! Happy packing! I’m all for visits to Goodwill to donate. I must get rid of stuff every 3 months and donate. I don’t know where it comes from!

Peanut will be one of the few kids in school who has her early years documented, just like a celebrity. Imagine how important that will make her feel!

Even ‘fun’ can be exhausting when you’re a mom. Though wine on the terrace sounds like fun.
