6 non-traditional (and kickass) princess books

It’s almost ingrained in their genetics; I’m certainly not the first to say so. That age when girls just become obsessed with everything princess. Gemma was a train fanatic up until the age of 3.5, at which point the entire thing imploded into three Rapunzel gowns and 6 plastic crowns. She still revisits Thomas, occasionally, but the relationship is nothing like before.

I don’t have a problem with Gemma dressing up as a Princess; I think we all need a pouf of glitter here and there (mamas being no exception). I loved Disney World and have seen all the movies. I do try to temper the sparkle with some literature that presents a stronger type of imagery, though. I can’t help but snicker when Elizabeth calls Ronald a “bum” in the Paper Bag Princess (a favorite from my own childhood), and am thrilled that Gemma enjoys it just as much. Here are a few more for the kickass princesses in your life. I’d like to think I’m raising two of my own.
